It is usually manufactured in ductile iron to avoid an excessive consumption of the bell at the point of impact. It could be ordered also provided with cable seals and safety bracket in leather.

Bell Clapper

The bell clapper is the pivoting component inside the bell whose swinging motion strikes the bell to produce sound. Thanks to its central position, the clapper can make precise contact with the inner walls of the bell, generating chimes of various intensities depending on the amplitude of its swing.

It is traditionally made of mild steel to minimize wear on the inner surface of the bell at the point of impact. In doing so, it prevents excessive abrasion of the bronze (or whichever alloy is used), preserving the bell’s sound quality and longevity.
